Unhighlighting numbering in Word 2007

I need to unhighlight a number in Word 2007. I've already tried
Format/background/no fill - doesn't work. I looked in Word options but
nothing there either...
 
Never mind. I did it. I think it was picking up highlighting from the
previous line (which is blank) and I included that line in my selection and
it worked.
