Problem with copying and pasting within a document

I am using Word 2003. In this particular document, when I highlight text to
be copied and pasted within the same document, everything looks correct, I
click on Paste and nothing happens. The document is not read-only, and I
made sure the document was not locked or protected. There have been some
other editing anomalies as well, i.e., inability to highlight or unhighlight
text. Has anyone else encountered this problem and did you find a solution.

It sounds like either the document is corrupted, or the memory space is
corrupted. The latter can be resolved by rebooting. The former can be
verified by seeing if the problem occurs in other document (new and
existing).
