unable tp print on parallel printer

I have a usb to parallel converter, windoes has recognised the printers and
installed the drivers but nothing prints. Error message just says failed to
print. Tried all the obvious things. Printers tried are Lexmark 5700 and HP
deskjet 350c. Any ideas? Thanks

Presumably, you have a parallel port on the computer.. why not use it?.. if
you have two parallel printers to connect, do it through an auto switcher
box (not the cheapest option) or install a 'parallel' pci card into your
system..

Since this can be a result of the USB converter software,
it might really help if you would list the USB converter Mfr. and Model.
When you mention a USB converter to most printer mfrs support, they tend to
stop talking to you, and immediately blame the converter.

1. Check with the manufacturer's web site and any documentation with the
converter to see if it requires any additional drivers. Also, confirm
that it is properly installed.

2. Try disabling bi-directional support in the printer driver if indeed
the driver has that facility.

Let us know.

I have a very similar problem and I connect directly to the parallel port and
the test page prints fine, all applications print fine. However, when I try
to print from an old DOS program, no print.

your problem seems not to be related with the OP's one, since your printer
is working correctly under Windows. Probably your printer simply is not DOS
compatible (it's a Windows-only, AKA GDI one)
You may want to have a look at Printfil to see how it can solve your
problem. More info and a free trial version is available for download at
