unable to type or paste into a word doc

Hi,
In word I'm unable to type anything into a word doc, including space. I even tried pasting something in and that does work either. Im able to type in other applications excel etc but not word.

Is this any Word document or just a particular one? If the latter, the
document is protected for forms. If the former, have you registered your
copy of Word with Microsoft? Which version of Word are you using?
