Unable to set incoming and outgoing email server addees

G

Guest

The pop3 and smtp server addees specified by my ISP do not work in Outlook;
tell me they can't be found. They work in Outlook Express! -- Outlook begins
searching for incoming and outgoing, then come the error messages: can't be
found. (Have no problems with email with Eudora6 or even the very occasional
use of Netscape.)
Is there a workaround? Thanks.

You must have a slight typo in the server settings. Try Importing the
settings from OE and see if they work. You can also open OE and copy and
paste the settings to OL.

Thanks for responding. I've tried copying, checking for typos, importing,
etc. Nothing seems to work. Just can't connect to my ISP. I've even edited my
registry. I may just have to uninstall and reinstall Outlook. Sheesh!

What version of Outlook? If Outlook 2002 or 2003, what errors do you get
when you test account settings? The error messages are the key to solving
this problem, which is most likely an authentication problem.

I am having a similar problem using Outlook 2003. I have imported from OE,
uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, but nothing seems to work. Error
message I receive after testing the account "Task 'Earthlink - Sending'
reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be
found.' "

Also, most likely related to same problem, when I click on the Send/Receive
button I receive the error "The operation failed. An object could not be
found."

Please help.... Need to write a macro that utilizes Outlook 2003. Thanks!

I'm using Outlook2k as a unit of Office2k, under XP. I connect to my ISP with cable broadband. When I try to send or receive I get the message "The server could not be found. (Account 'gmwalkr', POP3 Server: 'pop-server.elp.rr.com,' Error number 0x800ccc0d). I have no connection problems with Eudora or with Outlook Express.
Uninstalled and installed Outlook hoping to get a clean installation, but it
picked up the same settings; do not know how to get the settings cleared. --
I am not afraid to edit the registry if that would help to solve the problem.
Thanks for the response, Millie.

Check with your ISP for the server name - it appears that pop.server is not
a properly configured name for a mail server. Road Runner has FAQs on their
site that will tell you how to configure their servers for use.

For Earthlink, I seem to recall that they use a special configuration for
their servers - check their home page for FAQs on configuring the mail
server settings. I may recall incorrectly, but they may require the use of
SSL.

Millie,
Problem is that I am using the settings from the RR FAQ for Outlook2k. I'm
waiting for a response from them. If there is a change they recommend I will
post it to the group. Again, thanks.
