Unable to set IE as Default Browser

O.S. XP Professional with SP2

Each time I open IE, during a session, a pop-up states that it is currently
not my default browser. I click to set as default but fix doesn't take.

I also have a problem setting Outlook Express as default email, hovever I
think problem is related to the IE problem. Tools folder does not have OE
available as a choice for email (nothing is listed) in the Program tab of
Internet Options.

System was working fine until a couple of days ago and I am unaware of any
changes to my system to affect settings..

Thanks.

Hi Bob :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

For WinXP SP1 and above, you can use the "Set Program Access and Defaults"
feature.

Other options:

Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser -
option does not work:

Jan,

Thanks for your feedback. After posting my msg I read a few other problems
that were similar to mine and I tried the following which worked:

"From the run line (if the Outlook Express and Internet Options methods do
not register Outlook Express as the default e-mail program, use this method):
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type the following line, including the quotation marks, where drive is
the letter of the drive in which Outlook Express is installed, and then click
OK:
"drive:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg "

This action took care of both problems IE default browser and OE default
mail program.

Thanks again...Bob
