Unable to send eMails

I have been using Windows Vista Mail of 2/3 months without problems. I now
receive the following message:

"The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test', Account:
'mail2.eircom.net', Server: 'mail2.eircom.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts
(#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number:
0x800CCC79"

I have fully uninstalled McAfee including use of MCRP. I have installed
Avast and disabled outgoing scanning. I have downloaded HB 941090 but my
system inform me I do not need this download and then refused to install it.
As I still get the message above what must I now do>

That error message suggests that eircom.net is blocking messages going
to addresses at o2.ie. Does email sent to other addresses work?

Did you try to install both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version of
KB 941090? The one that doesn't fit your version of Vista will just
refuse to install, so you might as well try both of them in case you've
guessed wrong on whether you have a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of
Vista.

Also, does your connection to that server cross over from one
internet provider's equipment to another's before it gets to the
server? If so, many email servers block such connections to port 25,
to cause problems for spammers, and you often aren't told about
changes in this blockage.

Sounds like your Internet connection is coming from a place other than
eircom.net. If that is the case, please disclose who is providing your
Internet connection, and we may be able to suggest workarounds.

Many thanks to all of you who have replied to me. 3 months ago I got
Broadband (waited for ever to get it with eircom) and every thing worked
fine. I get Broadband from Ice Broadband an irish Company. I assume from
your posts that I need to chane my port setting. How do I do that? Also
further info will be appreciated and acknowledged.

The best solution is to replace your current SMTP server with the one
belonging to your broadband provider. Your correspondents won't
know the difference because everything else (including your 'From' address
will stay the same.

eircom.net's instructions don't seem to say if they listen for outgoing
mail on any other port, so it's a good idea to ask them for instructions
on how to do this first.

If they just give you another port number to try, click on Tools, then
Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Advanced.
Click at the end of the 25, then backspace over it, then type the new
port number, then click Apply, then OK, then Close.

Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to do this - there are about
65,000 ports available.

If eircom.net doesn't offer such connections on any other port, you may
have to ask Ice Broadband's technical support if they have email
servers, and if so, how to set up to use them. You can then use their
outgoing email server even if you keep on using the same incoming
email server and the same email address.
