unable to see the smart tags in word 2002

Hi,

I am unable to see the smart tags in my document file. However it shows when I type date but smart tag doesn’t appear not even in the purple line when I used names, phone etc.

Why?

Pl. guide me.

Hi Prerak,

Smart tags can be turned on/off under Tools/Options/AutoCorrect
Options/Smart tags.

Check the list and verify you have those you wish to use turned on.

Hi Beth,

I already done that option under Tools but the same problem arise. The funny thing is on inserting date then smart tags appears but not on person name etc even when they are on. I know that it is most unlikely but this is what its happening.
Even i uninstall it & install it again but no success.
So what can be wrong?
Am i missing any other option to click/on then please let me know as soon as possible.

Hi Prerak,

They work on my end. Take a look under Help/About Microsoft Word. What
is the full version and patch level?

Have you tried removing smart tags and then rechecking the document?

Also, I don't recall if the Person Name smart tag in Office XP was
tied to Outlook Contacts. (I have Outlook 2003 so I'm unable to test
this scenario even in Word 2002)

Can anyone using Word 2002 and Outlook 2002 verify this? Do smart tags
appear for individuals not listed in your Contacts?

appears not to be the case. I can type in names that are certainly

names, the the SmartTag Recognizer is programmed for, of course).

Another thought: the SmartTag stuff is all language-specific.
Perhaps the names are not usual for the SmartTag language? Or the
document is formatted with a different language?

For example, if I select text where names are recognized then apply
German language formatting, the SmartTag markings are removed.
