Hi
To upgrade from USB 1.1 ports to USB 2.0, I installed a USB 2.0 internal PCI card which I cannot get to work

I use Windows XP and downloaded SP1. My motherboard (ABIT KG7) supports USB1.1 but not USB 2.0. Once inserted in its slot, my 4-port USB 2.0 PCI card is recognized by the device manager : A text box appears when I start the system saying that a USB controller has been detected. However, a window then opens saying a problem prevented the installation. The Install Wizard then launches, asking that I insert the CD with the driver. The CD being inserted, I click 'next' and the Wizard then informs me that a problem was met and aborts the installation (device not configured correctly, error code 1)

I tried the following
- disable the USB in the Bios, figuring that XP SP1 or the drivers from the CD would manage the new USB 2.0 card. It did not work. I re-enable the USB in the Bios
- remove the PCI card; install the drivers from CD; switch-off the system; insert the PCI card and then restart. The CD is read and I can install the driver from it. However, when the card is inserted and the system restarted, I get the very same messages : device is detected, cannot be installed (error code 1)
- I inserted the PCI card in another available slot (I have 6 : 1 for Soundblaster, 1 for Video, 1 Modem, 1 TV tuner, 2 free slots)
- I borrowed a PCI card and CD from a friend (different brand) and tried to install it with the same problems. So my problem is not to do with the CD, nor with a specific PCI card

What can do ?

Other devices on motherboard : 2 hard drives, 1 CD burner, 1 DVD-drive, 1 floppy drive

Thanks for your help

Switch off, disconnect ALL your USB leads from your systembox, Boot into
Safe Mode, Go to device manager and delete the entire USB tree. Boot up,
and connect your USB devices one by one, and your USB hob and nodes will be
rebuilt, and hopefully correctly enumerated.

regards, Richard

There is an upgrade of drivers for USB 2.0 - I suggest getting them and
installing them. See
