Unable to correct DSL connection error 691

After about 2 months of successful Verizon DSL use I'm suddenly unable to connect due to a 691 erro
that tech support can't resolve. I was told that Verizon is working OK and that it's a Microsoft problem
After some searching I found some info about deleting *.pwl files and/or recreating my telephon.in
file to correct posible password corruption but none of these exist on my machine. I'm running
Win XP Home editiona and can't find XP help anywhere. Any info?

Error 691: Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the
domain.

Resolution:
1) Verify the logon ID and password are correct.
2) Make sure the Include Windows logon domain check box is unchecked in the
Options tab of the dial-up connection's Properties dialog box.
3) Make sure the dial-up connection's security option is correctly
configured to use the Require secured password setting.
4) Delete all of the *.pwl files and reboot if you are using win9x.
5) Try another logon ID or create a new Logon ID because the profile may be
damaged.

Thanks for the info but....

Resolutions
1) I have verified my logon ID and password endlessly with Verizon Tech support and they have even supplied me with "test" id's that also didn't work
2) & 3) I have DSL, not dial-up so these settings do not apply
4) I'm running WinXP and there are no *.pwl files
5) see resolution 1

Thanks again. Any other info?

Actually, assuming that you are connecting directly with a "DSL modem" rather than through a router, your connection is more like dialup than you may
realize (note the first sentence under "Create a PPPoE Client Connection" in the MS article below).

If all you have been doing is to carefully reenter your user id and password (or even just entering the test id/password), you may not be resetting some
part of what apparently has become corrupted.

Try instead deleting your connection (which, IIRC, will be described as something like Verizon WAN Miniport). Reboot. Then create a new connection as
described here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283070&Product=winxp
