DSL connectivity problems - was fine previously

Running Dell Dimension 3000 XP SP2 Home, Verizon DSL.

Was running Verizon DSL fine for months (Westell 2200 Modem) and recently
having problems after installing a game. (Not sure if I blocked features I
shouldnt have while installing?) ISP is there and checked with ISP - I can
connect to it in the form of a dial-up BROADBAND connection, but that causes
conflicts. The network area says its connected and should be working, but IE
(and connection) does not work unless Im on dial-up situations.

Turned off XP firewall and using McAffee. Not sure if its a setting or a
currupted file? Debating on some research options - re-install the ethernet
card? Sys restore? Tried changing a variety of settings but it must be
something Im unaware about - Im a newbie to XP and I get lost when it comes
to some tech issues. Any help is appreciated and sorry if I forgot any
details.

Not sure what you mean by "conflicts" ?

You need to use PPPoE with Verizon DSL, as far as I know - so either the
Verizon software or the built-in stuff you mention.

In control panel | internet options | connection, what do you see? Do you
see the dialup/broadband/Verizon stuff in the box, and do you have it set
for "always dial" ?

Do you see an IP address if you type ipconfig /all in a command line?
Can you ping your default gateway successfully?
Can you type in ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and get a new IP
address?

Thanks for the reply - FYI I tried a restore and that didnt work so I
re-installed the OS and everything is fine now. It recognized the connection
and works just fine (knock on wood)

It was worth the work as it is faster now that I dont have the Dell bundle
junk in there. Thanks again for the info.
