Unable to Capture Video

Our Movie Maker does not "see" our Canon Camcorder. Do I need another video
card, or do I need to turn an option on or off? Our port we are plugged into
works for our Digital Camera, so I know the port is working. What am I
missing?

We are using a firewire connecting to our USB.

"Firewire" and "USB" are two DIFFERENT kinds
of connections. You would have to break something
to "connect a firewire cable to a USB port".

"Firewire" is also called IEEE-1394 and "I-link"
and even "DV" on some camcorders.

No known DV camcorders send full-speed, full-
resolution video through the USB cable. DV
cameras use Firewire to send and receive DV
video. Some Mini-DVD cameras use USB to
send MPEG-compressed video. DV camcorders
sometimes use USB to send low-resolution
"webcam" type video.

It is also extraordinarily helpful to mention which
model camcorder you are using as there are thousands
of variations and we are pretty much guessing in
the dark without that info.

It is one or the other.
As Richard said it would help if we knew what model camcorder you were using
to check what it is capable of but regardless you are either capturing to
USB or Firewire (IEEE1394/iLink) but it can't be both.
