Unable to activate System Restore

Hi anyone

I am unable to re-activate my system restore for XP home
edition. I receive the following error message:

"System Restore encountered an error trying to
enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your
machine and try again."

I have restarted my computer many times and the same
error keeps appearing.
Does it sound like I have a virus???
I have tried it after turning off my virus/firewall and I
get the same error message.

I also tried to enable AUTOMATIC UPDATES but the entire
screen is greyed out and I cannot enable it.

Any ideas on how to resolve this will be very helpful.

THanks

Bree

-----Original Message-----
Be sure to have System Restore Services "on" in AdminTools>Services
.
Hi
I went into Performance and Maintenance
then "administrative tools" then "services"
then "system restore services" then I have
Startup type set to "automatic"

This is the only place where I can see what you mean, but
there is no box that says "ON"

Is this what you meant??

Thanks again
Any ideas about why I am unable to use automatic update,
the entire page is greyed out and I am unable to activate
it.
