Unable to access database

I need help regaining access to my database... I was
tinkering with the userlevel security settings on
the "system.mdw" database, and now I cant get in to
another database called xusa2002.mdw...

I guess the settings that I was messing with directly
affected my xusa2002.mdw database...

Now all I get is mostly: "You dont have the necessary
permissions to access the c:/xusa2002.mdw object. Have
your system admin or the person who created this object
establish the appropriate permissions for you."

Other times, I am able to get to the logon window, but
when I enter the correct username and pass, I get the
above error message.

Your help will be greatly appreciated...

Rgds.,

Is that a workgroup file or a database?

Were you possibly joined to the xusa2002.mdw workgroup, and not system.mdw?
That would have changed the former, not the system.mdw workgroup.

Hello,

Unfortuanately, the file that I was tikering with was not
my database file, but instead the workgroup file itself...

When I join the system.mdw file is the only time I get a
logon window. If I am joined to anything else, I get the
error msg. right off the bat...

In an effort to rescue the database, I downloaded the
jetcomp.exe file that MS has and tried to compact the
database this way, but it returns an error also...

Thx for your help...

Hello,

So you opened the mdw directly and started modifying it? Since it was the
system.mdw and you're using 2002, try joining the system.mdw workgroup.

Then rename system.mdw to system1.mdw. Open Access, it should create a
pristine system.mdw for you.

You should not be modifying the mdw files by opening them directly. Instead
join the workgroup file, and make modifications via the Tools, security menu
or by writing code.
