Unable to access CD-rom & DVD rom drives

CD's and DVD's not playing when inserted into drives. Drives are not showing
in "My Computer" either. Following messages found in XP error log. How do I
restore them?

(IDE\CdRomHL-DT-ST_DVD-ROM_GDR 8160B_______________0009____\5
&36c4d9a5&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared
for removal.

635344f35314430305332333631202 0_0_0_0_0) disappeared from the system without
first being prepared for removal.
