Un-install WM?

I can't find MS Messenger in my Add/Remove window.
I'd like to uninstall the messenger completely, as I do not
use it and I keep getting "Information" messages prompting
me to install updates. How do I un-install?

I am puzzled by the update prompts, as I was of the
impression that such updates would come in automatically
along with whatever XP updates were downloaded. Can
anyone enlighten me on that point?

In Add or Remove programs choose add / remove windows components. There will
be a check box against windows messenger. Uncheck that and click next &
finish up the process

Ive tried un-installing using the method below but even though windows
messenger is not checked in the Add/Remove dialog box Messenger keeps
running and asking me to update. Messenger also does not show up in the
start-up section of msconfig. Anybody got any ideas how to get rid of this
program.

Greetings,

You can completely remove Windows Messenger (4.7) but if you do, you will be preventing
Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, and Application Sharing from working.

However, if you don't use this functionality that would be disabled by removing Messenger,
you can simply remove it by closing down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger
icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button,
then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,
