spybot?

I guess that is something you will have to discover on your own.

Personally - I will only donate to the good anti-spyware software - too much
of the best of it is free.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Lavasoft AdAware

CWSShredder

Hijack This!

I also like "The Cleaner" and "SpywareBlaster" and "SpywareGuard".

The first is a PAY product, but useable for 30 days - it has found and
eliminated problems in the past the others did not. The latter two are
prevention mechanisms. I like SpywareGuard for those with enough processor
to have something running like antivirus software - and it prevents browser
hijacking quite well.

And Assortment of Others:

Spybot looks for "spyware" in files. It doesn't apply to the Registry. I
would recommend employing Spybot. Also SpywareBlaster
(http://www.wilderssecurity.net/) which stops the intruders from entering.
Since I installed the latter, Spybot has not found a single piece of
"spyware" in my files. CGS

SpyBot does check for registry entries for known
spyware/adware.

Spybot Search and Destroy *does* check in the registry and is the program
that originally turned many people to SpywareBlaster.. Because Spybot Search
and Destroy has an "immunize" feature (look for it when you use Spybot next)
that makes many of the same entries as SpywareBlaster then has a link to
SpywareBlaster, recommending it.

Here is the information from the Spybot Search and Destroy help file:
---------------
Immunize Search & Destroy
Beginning from version 1.2, Spybot-S&D allows you to immunize your computer
against some spyware. It currently offers three different immunities:

Permanent Internet Explorer immunity

Similar to JavaCools SpywareBlaster, this allows you to tweak some internal
Internet Explorer settings to block the installation of known spyware (and
similar threats) installers. Spybot-S&D is able to set all entries for those
that are in its database to be blocked. If you want to distinguish, you
should install SpywareBlaster.

Permanently running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer

This is a second layer of protection for IE. While the Permanent Immunity
blocks installers by their ActiveX ID, this one blocks anything that should
come through by different aspects.
You can view a log of blocked installers in the Tools / Resident section.

Recommended miscellaneous protections

These are very small changes recommended to make your system a bit safer and
more secure. Locking the hosts file will prevent most hosts hijackers (even
unknown) from doing harm; locking the IE settings will prevent other users
of your computer to change your preferences.
