UAC protected mode off

I can not get the ie7 protected mode in the status bar to show anything but off. All 4 security areas have it toggled to ON.

What else is wrong ?

Have you got UAC overall turned off? i.e. have you disabled the annoying UAC
popups? UAC as a whole needs to be enabled for protected mode to work. I
found that out myself when I'd disabled UAC when first getting my Vista
installation up and running. You can turn it on or off in User Accounts.

Do you have UAC turned off? Protected mode only works if UAC is on.

In order for protect mode to be on, UAC must be turned on in Vista as well.
Must have one to get the other.

I turned UAC off when I couldn't get it to allow my popfile to run in thestartup.
I got that problem fixed by turning it into a scheduled task to run at logon.
This was all done in part to get UAC back to running as it was designed to.
I have Vista HP. Is this one of the flavors that has stuff showing and taking up space, but will never work, above and beyond the synch section ?
I turned UAC back on. then yesterday reset all the protected's in ie7.
It still tells me it's off.

How many other extras like the synch section are installed, but dead on this HP ?
