typing between a bullet list makes the whole page shift down why

I set up a multilevel list in outline form of the main points then went back
to add information between the headings and everytime I did the whole page
would shift down to the next page. Hitting the backspace or delete key only
managed to mess up the rest of the formatting. Using shift+enter did the
same thing. What's up?

Very likely you used Word's built-in heading styles for your multilevel
list. Headings 1-4 are formatted as "Keep with next," which means that when
you have an outline consisting of nothing but headings, they keep chasing
each other, and as soon as you insert any text that is not formatted as KWN,
the following heading will jump to the next page to be with all the
following ones; that is, Word will insert a page break whenever it is given
an opportunity. The solution is to either use body text styles for your
outline or remove the KWN property from the heading styles (at least below
level 1 or 2).
