txt files don't open with Notepad when I double-click them

In my Windows XP PC, when I double-click on a txt file (or right-click and
Open), it doesn't open the file. The odd thing is that when I right-click and
choose "Open With", the NOTEPAD entry doesn't have the small notebook icon
(it has the default white icon). I tried doing the file associations again
but to no avail.
The notepad.exe is in my Windows dir and double-clicking it directly, it'll
open Notepad. The problem arises when I double-click on a txt file.

Thanks.
