Two related questions on standby

1. If I set power scheme of monitor off in 5 minutes and hard drive off in 5
minutes all is fine overnight. However if I click on standby in shutdown
screen it fails to run browser properly the next morning. IE6 actually tries
to go to home page,yahoo, and hangs up then cannot exit without pulling
power. Even End task hangs if I try that.

2.Is there any benefit to using standby vice monitor/hd off in 5 minutes?

using XPpro on fast machine w/1 gig
