Turning on AGP texture acceleration crashes my new machine

Hi folks,

apologies if this has been asked a thousand times before. I've just
built a new PC:

Tyan Tiger mobo
2 x Opteron 244
2GB ECC RAM
Radeon 9800 pro (128)
XP Pro

Everything worked great after setting up. I installed the Black Hawk
Down game that came with the 9800 which worked perfectly. I did notice
in Dxdiag that AGP texture accel was greyed out though and 'not
available'

I then installed the latest ATI drivers and now I can turn AGP accel
on but as soon as I do this the game crashes. 3Dmark01 also crashes as
soon as the benchmark starts (originally it ran ok)

Seeing as 3dmark and Black Hawk ran fine before, what benefit does AGP
accel have? Should I just leave it turned off or is there something
else I need to do to get it to work properly?

Hope someone can help!

cheers
Russ

Reinstall your motherboard drivers.

You shouldn't have to turn on AGP support to get it. In deed programs like
Powerstrip warn users that changing AGP modes dynamically can cause a PC to
crash.

Check the BIOS to make sure it is enables, and your AGP aperture is at least
32Mb (bigger doesn't matter)
