AGP Texture Acceleration was disabled by either DX9b, or CAT 3.6 :(

I updated the CAT drivers when they came out, and updated DX9b
as soon as it was released. After the DX9b update, I went to test the
the drivers using DIAG.EXE, and found that the AGP Texture Acceleation
was disabled, and the button to enable it is greyed out. I'm not sure
if the Catalyst drivers disabled it, or DX9b disabled it.
I have the latest AGP mainboard drivers successfully
installed. I've tried uninstalling, and reinstalling all 3 of the
drivers, and nothing helps. Here is my system:

DFI CA64-TN (VIA 694T/686B)
Celeron 1.1Ghz
512MB PC133 SDRAM
PowerColor Radeon 9000 64MB
WinME (All upda ted)

Anyone know what could be causing this? I know this was
enabled back in the CAT 3.5, and DX9a days.

Mine is enabled. 9800 Pro, 3.6, DX9b

Flight Sim 2004 has many display problems though, but that is a new thread.

Off to try the Omega drivers.

Hi Larry,

Lack of "AGP Texture Acceleration" in todays cards is due either
to needing an "AGP miniport driver" (Via type chipsets/mainboard)
or missing "Processor to AGP controller" driver (System Devices).
You likely have one or the other, the latter is Intel Chipset boards.

file_examples...Win2000, WinXP...will be in /system32/drivers
for Via chipsets, viaagp.sys, viagart.sys.
for Intel ............., pci.sys, agp440.sys

Above files may have slightly different names and are only examples
of typical drivers for enabling AGP. Also be sure to check Device
Manager or System Hardware (in Control Panel) for any yellow
exclamation marks...and attend to them.

When you get the motherboard disk/drivers (updated) just install
above and reboot...that should re-enable the setting/option.

I've found that I've needed to reinstall video drivers, after updating DXx.
I've, also, experienced the reverse (having to reinstall DXx, after
installing new video drivers). The word 'flaky', comes to mind.

VIA Hyperion driver was installed. I even tried reinstalling.
Have no idea what's wrong here.

Make sure the smartgart service has not been stopped. Right-click my
computer, manage, services, ATI Smart (or whatever).

That is only one of 3 steps...read this page for more clues...

Drivers and files have a way of getting removed or disabled
by many programs, so one has to be vigilant installing/removing
any applications and especially hardware related drivers.

as a last resort ...this is "ancient" miniport driver for via chipsets...
may or may not work...but I include the link just_in_case.
http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/others/580_3012.zip

typically...I had to remove older via driver packages before doing
an update/new driver package, this differs depending on board.

good luck...it's still in the area from post I first sent.
