Turning off those custom folders

Alrighty, the same technology in question is the one that goes into a fodler
like "My Pictures" that senses the common type of file in the folder and
changes the left-side of the explorer window to correspond. Example and
problem:

I have a partitioned drive. On my extra blank drive, I kept lots of mp3s.
Windows made it automatically a music folder, and I want to turn it off, but
even removing the mp3s hasn't changed it back. There are now no files on that
drive, and it still thinks it's a music folder. How do I turn it off?

Hi JH2215,

The FolderType setting is once set in the registry and it does not change
automatically. Here are your options:

1. Delete the folder and create a new one. (if it's not a special folder)
2. Reset all folder settings:

Click Start, Run and type C:\
Click Tools, Folder Options
In the View tab, click "Reset all folders"
Click OK.
Close the folder

3. To fix the FolderType setting for a particular folder, follow this advice
by Keith Miller.

Using Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com:

1. Open My Pictures folder from Start Menu or using Start/Run dialog.
2. Start Process Explorer
3. Switch the lower pane view to Handles, in order to find the 'Bag Number'.
4. Once you locate the Bag #, go to that key and change the FolderType value
accordingly.

For normal folders, use the Customize tab and set the folder type template
to "Documents..". Note that the Customize tab will not be available for
drives and special folders. In that case, my previous suggestion applies.
