Turning Off Programs Running In Background

Rick

How can I access the programs that begin at start up and keep running in the
background. I have used alt, control, delete, but something is still
running, thanks

I used alt, control, delete, to check the processes runnung but it showed
none, yet Win Live One Care when running full virus scan says three programs
are running and I can't determine which ones. I need to access the complete
list of programs that run at start to determine what was turned on and
running in the background. Processing speed has dropped off to nearly
nothing. Thanks

First, letme say I'm no idiot and if I knew what was running I wouldn't be
asking how to determine which programs opened at startup. It is in XP,
identified while running Live One Care when the sign in screen popped up.
Thanks anyway
