TS Liscensing Question

Rory

Hi ,

I am about to setup a TS in app-serv mode. I have 2
differet setups to do. I did do this once before but back
then my old boss was making all decisions not me.
Anyway, Can someone please answer a couple basic
Questions?

1. 35 Laptop users will need to access this TS. All are
2K and XP clients and the 2K server TS is properly
liscensed. The app they will run is lisensed. Do we need
to purcahse any additional lisence either client or
server side?

2. Am I correct that I still need to install a TS
Lisensing Server even if there are no down-level, pre 2K
clients?

Thanks

Rory

If those clients are Windows XP Pro or XP Pro, then you
don't need to purchase additional TSCALs. You also need
to make sure you have enough CALs installed on the
server. Each concurrent user who accesses a resource
provided by the Windows 2000 server will require a CAL.
These are licenses concurrently, so if you have 50 people,
but only 30 people use the Windows 2000 server at any one
time, then you only need 30 CALs.
2. Am I correct that I still need to install a TS

You betcha. Since all your clients are XP Pro or 2000
Pro, then you only need to install the TS licensing
service on a domain controller (if in a domain) and
activate it.
