Trying to use remote assistance in XP

I'm trying to use remote assistance, both computers are XP SP2. I send the
invitation and the person who gets it cannot opern the link
RcBuddy.MsRcIncident. The error msg reads: The file does not have a program
associated with it for permitting this action. Create an association in the
folder options control panel. When I access the folder options and look up
the file it seems to be associated correctly ie "Microsoft remote assistance
incident". I turned the firewall off in the computer sending the invitation
no joy. What am I missing. Have read the MS remote assistance help and
don't find an answer. Appreciate some help.

THanks in advance

Not seen that error, but if the party being asked to give assistance toggles
the Remote Desktop off, restarts and toggles it back on, it may activate the
association. As I remember it, the way to do that is to open the system app
in control panel, RD tab. (My Thin Client here doesn't have it.)

Hi Tcahil,

The error msg: The file does not have a program associated with it for
permitting this action is popping up on the remote computer right? Therefore
the remote PC must be configured wrong. The remote PC needs to be XP or
higher (2003 / Vista etc.)
Is that the case?

Mark;
Thanks for the response. I'm not sure that I understand what you've written.
The party asked for assistance (the "expert" according to MS) gets an email
with a "MsRcIncident" file attached. When the expert tries to open that file
he gets the error msg I wrote about. What is supposed to happen is that when
the expert clicks on that file (.MsRcindent ) it's supposed to launch MS help
and support. This does not happen. I get the error msg. The expert never
gets to the remote desktop. Could you expand on what you mean by "As I
remember it, the way to do that is to open the system app in control panel,
RD tab". In other words, what system app in control panel and what does RD
mean. Sorry for my lack of sophistication.

Thanks

It's poping up on the computer that is being asked for assistance, ie the
"expert" computer is what MS calls it in it's KB. Both computers are WinXP
with SP2. I have checked the configuration of the expert computer and it is
configured to enable remote assistance. According to MS help on this subject
clicking on the file should open Help and Support on the expert computer and
I go from there. Unfortunately, this doe not happen.

Thanks for the response
