Trying to type quotation marks

Hi, everyone.

For some time, I've had a Compaq notebook, but I've
mainly just used it for playing a few games while
commuting. Now I want to start using it more for word
processing and email uses, but every time I try to type a
quotation mark or apostrophe, nothing happens. I actually
have to hit a second key for it to show up. If I hit the
space bar after trying to type a quote, then the quote
shows up, for instance. This is quite annoying, as it's
slowing down my otherwise fairly quick typing speed.

Anyone know how to fix this?

You have the keyboard layout set on 'US INternational', which provides
these dea-key effects for accented characters - eg ~ then n gives ñ

Go to Control Panel - Regional And Language Options. Take the Language
page and click Details.
There if you do not see any other suitable layout under Keyboard for
English in the lower pane, click on Add and search for one in the lower
drop down, Click OK. Then in the parent page, select this combination
in the Default Input language in the top drop down, Apply, OK and Apply
any time it is available on the way as you OK out. Then close and
restart to bring it into use.
