ok, i am using msn on a 56k modem, i have outlook which i seem to get email from my old email address. it was a pop3 cable through charter. i want to use outlook for the newsgroup and my old email address, since it's only secondary. i do not want to use my hotmail account. i have tried and failed. what i found on ms was mostly for a certain connection, not running 56 on outlook that used to be charter cable and my still almost working email. if all else fails, should i remove the account on outlook and set up another email if possible? am me confused you as am i ? ?? thanks for the help.

This is surely confusing <real name needed here>.

1. Outlook or Outlook Express?
2. Are both email addressed valid?
3. "am me confused you as am i ? ??" - Absolutely!

thanks kelly, yeah this is unusual. ok, i have outlook express with an old email address that recieves email but cannot send. it was through charter communications using a high speed modem. now i no longer have the modem or charter. i have a 56 k modem using msn. i tried setting up newsgroup email through outlook e, using links and info from the helpful regulars on here. my problem is i still can't set up the newsgroup.
i think i have to delete the old email account and set up a different one. if i click on a link someone gives me, i can go to outlook e and send and recieve answers on the ng but once i click out of outlook e, i can't get it back or add it while it's there. i'm confusing myself. and also, i don't want to use my hotmail address since people have been spam warned about putting their real ea on here.
thanks much:)

I am assuming that you got your setup information here:
http://users.westelcom.com/rogersr/setupoe.htm

Your email account and your newsgroup account are two separate issues.
You can have a newsgroup account without having an email account.
When you setup a newsgroup, you put a server name.
Did you use 'msnews.microsoft.com' for the server name?

Did you pick this newsgroup?
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

Did you subscribe to the newsgroup?

A new folder will be added to the Folders window.
msnews.microsoft.com
Clicking on the plus sign in front of msnews.microsoft.com will show all of
the newsgroups under that server.
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress should be listed.
Clicking on microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress will
open that newsgroup.

Posts and replies to a newsgroup are sent through a newsgroup server.
Your email account is not used.

Now, now Kelly, don't be critical of people who are educated
in the public government run schools, who think comic books
are literature.

First of all note that Outlook doesn't do newsgroups. Do you mean
Outlook Express? Outlook and Outlook Express are two very
different programs.

and my old email address,
since it's only secondary. i do not want to use my hotmail
account.

When you participate in a newsgroup, there is really no E-mail
address that you use. It's not a matter of using your old E-mail
address or your hotmail account. A newsgroup message is not the
same as E-mail and isn't really associated with an E-mail address
the way you apparently think it is.

However, you can put "your" E-mail address in the newsgroup
message header (go to Tools |Accounts, in Outlook Express), so
that someone who wants to reply to you by E-mail can click on
"reply" and do so.

Note that I put "your" in quotation marks because you can put
anything you want there; it doesn't have to be any real E-mail
address at all. If you look at my messages, you'll see that I use
(e-mail address removed) as my return address. I don't
use my real address for two reasons: I don't want spambots to
harvest my address in the newsgroups, and I really prefer not to
get replies by private E-mail; replies should be sent to the
group.

But if you want a real address there (again, I don't recommend
it), go to Tools | Accounts, and put whatever address you want in
your *news* account; leave your mail account alone.
