Trying to identify a programme that starts...

....automatically every time I turn the machine on.

It is something that tries to access the internet, and I would prefer
it not to do so automatically. I am on dial-up, and so have disabled
"connect automatically", but cannot identify what programme is actually
doing the dial up.

I have looked in start programmes, and have run a programme called
"Scotty". I tried Task manager whilst it was trying; and have looked
(as far as I can) in the options section of all programmes that might
be trying (Norton, AD-Aware, Sybot etc)

Is there something I can do to catch it 'at it' so I can identify it
and disable it until I am on broadband?

Any advice warmly welcomed.

Thank you.

Check that your clock is not set to synchronise to an internet
clock.......used to be the default AFAIK......

I had the same problem with WGA and then Windows Live Toolbar (Favorites,
....).

When the dial-up window comes up, CLick Cancel, bring up Task Manager, right
click on the Dial-up Window under Applications, Select Go To Process, and
see what the dial-up window is associated with.

Also, check out the dial-up window little icon on the left top part of the
window. Check out what it looks like.
Re-post here.

Get yourself a real firewall and it will identify and block outgoing
traffic.

Thank you, all. I will try, and let you know.

Bit of feedback for you all...

I did as advised, and found that Google Toolbar Notify was the
culprit.

Many thanks to all who set out to help me - most grateful.
