Here is his problem in his own words...

hello!
i am having a problem with windows xp. last week i
installed windows xp service pack 1. from that time till
now i am having a small problem but it takes my lot of
time. when i run ANY setup or while any setup configures
windows settings, the explorer.exe file hangs. it stops
responding. when i close the explorer.exe file, then the
setup completes and after that i re-open the explorer.exe
file. now i was visiting some sites for some help on this
problem and found a solution .
(Q329692_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe) i downloaded this file
under the section called (Windows XP Patch: Explorer May
Generate an Application Error When You Close a Folder).
but this was not the solution for my problem . i still
get this glitch while installing lots of programs. not
all, but most of the Setups stops responding itself and
and keep unreponded till i close the explorer.exe file. i
know some of you may have faced this problem. thats why i
am posting it here so anyone of you may help my problem
out.

Do you mean installing Service Pack 1 ( SP1) or Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Look in Event Viewer for error reports. They are often difficult to
interpret so post copies here.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Links giving some information about specific Error Reports are:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/support/ee.asp

http://www.eventid.net/search.asp

These links, however, do not contain information about each and every
Error Report.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A
workaround is copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off
the copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.
