Can I get Explorer.exe from Microsoft or this website.

Somehow I end up in Media Center when I clicked on Windows XP Newsgroups so
I'm reposting this here.

First, I'm sorry but this is a Windows 98SE problem not XP but it looks like
there's no support for the 98 OS on this site so I'm hoping someone here can
help.

I have an older PC with Windows 98SE. I was doing some cleanup and deleted
all cookies, temporary files and history through Internet Explorer then for
some reason Internet Explorer froze-up and I had to reboot the computer.
After the system initializes and runs the autoexec I get an error that
Explorer.exe has a page fault error and it doesn't go any further.
Apparently explorer.exe was corrupted (or something else?). I don't suspect a
virus.

I can not find my 98SE OS cd, I think I may have left it where I used to
work. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the explorer.exe file for
Windows 98SE? I do still have Windows 95 OS on cd but I'm not sure if its'
explorer.exe file would work for 98SE, anyone know? Thanks.

The problem likely isn't only with your copy of explorer, and you likely
won't find that copying over another version will work. No, using a Win95
version will not work.

I would suggest that you need to find another Win98 install CD, because you
may well need to do a repair install.

If you have data of value on that system, attach the drive to another system
and just copy it off.

If you start to look at paying for an install CD, consider looking at a used
XP system. There are plenty of 3gHz P4 systems available for under $200.

Open a Run command and type in:
iexplore /rereg click [OK] and it will re-register all dlls for the IE,
please Reboot your machine and see if the issue still exist!

- Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information
- Click Tools (tool bar) -> Internet Explorer Repair Tool

You cannrestore your system to an earlier stage when things were working
okay by running this command from command prompt on start up:
scanreg /restore a and select a date before the deletion happened.

Your best bet would be to format & do a clean install of Win98. Please note
that a Repair Install will NOT help.

Crikey! Dreadfully sorry, EXPOLRER.EXE is a core component of windows and
you cannot just reinstall it. However, if you want a replacement for a
corrupted copy of the file then you can download it from this website for
missing dll files:

Download DLL files (Homepage)

If your system alerts "can't find explorer.exe 6.0.6000.16386 " or "
explorer.exe 6.0.6000.16386 was missing ", Please don't worry, you can
download explorer.exe 6.0.6000.16386 on this page.We hope that our
explorer.exe 6.0.6000.16386 could help you!

Explorer.Exe is Windows File Protected component. Any change to
the actively in use file will automatically trigger a replacement. ( From
the \DllCache )
For example if I go to \Windows and rename Explorer.exe to any
other extension XP will replace the file in about 2 seconds.

Mr McCarty,
He is talking about Win98 - Yes, I know he's in the
wrong group! He knows and has already been told off about it by others.

Thank you for the reply Patrick. I agree about the 3gHz P4 systems available
for under $200 but this is my old PC that I have upgraded quite a bit and
want to keep it around. I have a very nice dual core machine with Vista!

Tim thanks a lot for this information and link and also the link to the
disscussion groups, that's exactly what I needed and was looking for.
