trying to get on newsgroups

I am trying to get on newsgroups but I keep getting the following message
that I cannot get on.."unable to connect to server"...when I ask for details
this is what I get
Protocol NNTP
port 119
secure(ssl):0
code:800ccc0e
what does all of this mean..and how can I connect to a newsgroup..

Check the address of the news server - which server are you trying to
connect to?

That error code means the server can't be contacted.

Either the server name is incorrect
or
You cannot reach it from your location

What newsserver are you trying to connect to?
