Unable to connect to server - Error code 800ccc0e

I have been successfully connecting to newsgroups (with McAfee antivirus
running)up until a few days ago, when I started to get the error message,
below:
Account: Bigpond
Server: localhost
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc0e

I have tried stopping McAfee from scanning emails but it made no difference.
Any advice gratefully accepted. Thanks in anticipation

That is because you need to uninstall McAfee and then re-install it without the
email integration(scanning) option. This is how you can disable the scanning option
only on McAfee . Or get rid of it completely and install something like AVG free
