Unable to conect to server (Newsgroup)

Hi,

I'm trying to connect to AP newsgroup and after setting up the account with
all the correct information (servername, user, pasword, etc.) I get this
error message.

Unable to conect to the server
Account: *
Server: newsclip.ap.org
Username: *
Protocol: NNTP
Port:119
Secure(SSL):0
Code: 800ccc0e

I have an eTrust antivirus with Realtime monitoring and the regular windows
firewall.
I added Windows Mail to the safe list of programs on the firewall and still
got the same msg.
I tried turning the antivirus and firewall off and got the same msg.

I'm very sure the info I used to set up the account is correct because it's
the same I have on my desktop and there it works without a problem.

Thanks for your help

reverse the state of the option for Secure Logon.
if it checked, uncheck it.
if it is unchecked, check it.

Thanks Mike.

I tried your advise and I still get the same error.
I turned the firewall off and that didnt seem to do anything either.

Any other ideas?

Thunderbird doesn't seem to be working either
I get this message
Connection to the server newsclip.ap.org timed out

Since it is beginning to look like Windows Mail
isn't the culprit I'd get back to Ap.org and
ask them to help you.

What did they say when the problem first occured?

I'll try setting up the account from scratch again and adding Windows mail to
the safe list on both the antivirus and firewall.

AP said their server was working fine and that they can't troubleshoot third
party programs

Thanks a lot for your help anyway, I'll post the solution when I find it.

Open a Command window and try to ping the server to see if you can reach
it...
Start - Run - Cmd
$ping newsclip.ap.org

That works for me... minus the $
