Trust relationship errors URGENT b/n NT 4.0 and Win 2K

Hi,
There two domains xyz.com(win 2k server) and NT_domain(win
NT 4.0).
Can establish trust from NT to Win2k but when you
establish trust from win 2k to Win NT and use VERIFY in
Trust tab of Activie directory domains and trust the error
message is as follows "The secure channel(SC) query on
domain controller \\lane_server of domain NT_domain to
domain XYz failed with error:the specified domain either
does not exist or could not be contacted. An SC reset will
now be attemted"

On windows 2000 DNS is configured and Windows NT Wins is
configured. On wins a mapping has been created for domain
controller of Win2k.
In TCP/IP properties of Win2k server in Wins tab IP is
added pointing to NT4.0 server.
can ping server on bothsides using name and IP.
in Local computer policy of Domain controller in security
settings seccure channel is also disabled"

Check if you also have an LMHOST file and in case you have, check it is
configured correctly.
It maybe a better idea to place an LMHOST in both the NT4.0 and 2000
domains.

After doing this run nbtstat -R

Try creating the trust again.

Prashanth,

In addition to what Karin suggested, I might add that if you continue to
have problems with this that - after doing everything that Karin suggested -
you attempt to create the trust using NETDOM instead of the GUI. Sometimes
with a "down-level" Trust ( between WINNT and WIN2000 ) you can do
everything correctly but it just won't work. When using NETDOM - assuming
everything else is in place - it will work.

In order to make use of NETDOM you need to install the WIN2000 Support
Tools. You can find the Support Tools on the WIN2000 Server CD or on the
WIN2000 Service Pack CD in the Support | Tools folder. You can also
download them from the MS website at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.

Cary
