Trouble with registry key HKCR\.dvr-ms.

M

Mike M.

I log in as an Administrator account. I get an error in Regedit when I try
to select this saying it couldn't open the key. If I try to rename or
delete I get an access denied message. If I try to change permissions on it
I get a message saying I can't view them but I can change them. However,
when I try to save my changes I get the access denied error. This is
keeping from running the sp2 install and I would like to delete it or reset
the permissions.

I am going to try to delete the key from the Admin account in safe mode.
Any suggestions to fixing this pesky registry key?

TIA

For what it's worth; what you see in HKCR is a symbolic link to;
HKLM\Software\Classes and HKCU\Software\Classes

The entries in HKLM are global to all users of the computer. What you see in
HKCU allows for unique customization of file type associations in the user's
profile. Entries in HKCU take precedence in the event of a duplication.

o.k. I fixed my problem by downloading subinacl.exe and setting premissions
on the hive with that. Then sp2 installed fine. I then renamed
C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\download and
C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore to fix my Windows Update not
working.

Thanks.
