trouble with installer

I am trying to install a updated Excel and I keep getting
the message "The Windows Install Service could not be
accessed. This can occur if running in safe mode or
Windows Installer no correctly installed." I am not
running in safe mode. What can I do? Nothing has
happened to change the Installer (that I know of) so what
has happened?

What OS are you running? What version are of Excel are
you going to and what version of Excel are you going FROM?
