Trouble sending messages out of outlook

I have changed over my download of MSN email to my outlook program by setting
up a pop3 account. I have changed the pop3 MSN account to be my default.
But I am having problems sending out any messages from outlook. I can
receive messages in outlook from MSN but can't send any out FROM OUTLOOK. I
am on outlook XP. Any help out there?

I have also turned off my scanning of outgoing messages to see if that would
allow the sending of messages from my outlook 2002 xp program and that has
not helped either. I have a feeling that this is not a common problem with
the changeover but i am not sure.
