Trouble opening new windows inside IE

G

Guest

I have a rather annoying problem on my hands. Whenever I atempt to open a new
window from within IE it always hang indefinitely (one hanged for an hour
before I closed it) but I can type a new address in the hanging window and it
will suddenly work again. However opening a new window from outside causes no
problems. This affects all IE windows that are open.

I am running Windows 98 SE with IE 6. I have tried the IE repair tool,
reinstalling, reverting to previous version (IE 5) then reinstalling and have
had no luck at all with any of the methods.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. You click on a link and an IE window doesn't even open:

http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx.

2. You click on a link and an IE window opens but it doesn't load:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click on a Link
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

(Re-register all DLLs listed in the above KB article)

3. Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.

Thanks very much for the hepl Mcrepair.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/patch/1.0/win98/en-us/mcrepair.exe
(the link to it was found at http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/27.html)
revealed that some .dll files were not updated with everything else. This
caused the problems in IE.

Once again thanks for the help. It's very much appreciated.
