Trouble Getting Windows Internet Explorer 7?

D

Dejola

I am running Windows XP (SP2). I have been trying since last night to
upgrade to Windows Internet Explorer without success. I go through the
whole process and download and install various updates, validation,
etc., and finally I start the Explorer 7 downoad process, which just
hangs. I've left it running and see the pretty green progress dashes
crawling across the screen for over and hour. All I see is 0.00KB of
14.0 megabytes. In oher words, no progress at all.

I contact Microsoft tech support chat, input my product ID (I have a
brand new Thinkpad z61M with an OEM version of Windows XP) and am
informed that I must contact my Thinkpad's manufacturer for support or
pay Microsoft $35.

I contact IBM/Lenovo tech support. They say that the issue belongs to
Microsoft since I am downloading from their site and since I am
otherwise able to surf the net with no problem.

Anybody know what gives?

Consider yourself lucky as many people have had a lot of problems with IE7.

You should post your question in the IE7 newsgroup *after* you spend
some time reading through the posts there. The IE7 newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you
now. ;-) In the meantime, here are some links that may help:

You might want to try the direct download link at

Dejola,

I just had a similar problem installing IE7, it would go through the whole
downloading and installing normally until it was finished, I was promted to
"reboot", after that all I got was a link icon to a "troubleshooting" IE7
dld'ing problems icon on my desktop, nothing on that page helped me, so I did
something that I don't suggest you do unless you know what your doing, I
cleared my "current user "temp files", which I don't recommend you do if your
PC isn't a "new" install of windows, I've done this before and most if not
all of my programs, MS update, ect., wouldn't work anymore.

Making a long story short, it installed just fine after that.

Hope this helps ya m8.

My thanks to all who have responded.

I'm using Firefox (1.5) at the moment. I listened to the many, many
people who said I would be better off with Firefox for a variety of
reasons. Somehow in view of the problems I'm having downloading and
installing the Windows Internet Explorer 7 upgrade, I think they were
right.

I just tried again to get 7 installed using the various suggestions
offered here. Still no luck. In fact when I tried to get to the
Microsoft site I was unable to. It just wouldn't load. How in the world
cxan a company like Microsoft with all its resources screw up the
release of its "new and improved" web browser so badly as to alienate
those of us who were (and I emphasize were) willing to give Internet
Explorer a second chance?

I've given up. I'll stick to Firefox 1.5 and move up to 2.0 when they
get he bugs out of it.

Thanks again for all your help.

Made one last atempt to surf on over to
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general , but my browser wouldn't
take me there. Tried using both IE and FF. That's it for me.
