Internet Explorer 7

Tom

I have downloaded Internet Explorer 7,but when I open it, I get a screen
asking me for required settings, for me to choose either to keep my current
default search provider, or to let me select from a list of other search
providers.
When I pick the first option, and click "save your settings", it
immediately comes up with"settings were not able to be saved successfully".
I tried reloading IE 7, but get the same thing. This means I do not have a
home page. I can use IE 7 normally after this, but it's driving me nuts, so
any ideas?

Why don't you merely go to control panel---internet options and put in a
home page? Or am I misinterpreting your post?

I believe you're doing it wrong.

In addition to selecting a search provider, you also need to indicate
whether or not you want to turn on the automatic phishing filter. There
may also be settings for Clear Type. So make sure you go through all the
options (not just the first one) before you click "Save your Settings."

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that
you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html [Only use the Command
%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe if you cannot uninstall via Add/Remove
Programs!]

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install <= Steps #1-8, #10 &
#11; take note of #12, then STOP!

NB: Use http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Or Direct Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any
critical updates offered. If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the
Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.

I am having the same problem. It began after I did a "Reset Internet
Explorer Settings" in the Tools menu today. It seemed to work but after I
reset my homepage it always restarts back to the runonce page. I suspect no
settings are being saved as tabbed browsing changes I made aren't saved
either.

The reason for the reset was that I have experienced significant hangs when
going from one site to another recently. And when that happens I noticed
LSASS.EXE spiking.

While checking other forums I found this which worked for my home page.

QUOTE - Run Registry Editor (type regedit in Run dialog box and press return
key)
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Now create two DWORD value titled RunOnceComplete and RunOnceHasShown and
set their value to 1 - UNQUOTE

Like I said, that fixed opening to runonce and showed my real homepage.
However, the check box for tabbed browsing still comes up instead of my home
page when I CTL-T. Does anyone know the dword and value for "Don't show this
page again " on Tabs?
