Trojan Virus called Backdoor.IRC.bot

On running a Norton Antivirus full system scan a virus has been detected called Backdoor.IRC.bot. The virus alert indicates that the object infected is C:\windows\system32\win32server.exe and the antivirus program says it has been unable to repair the file. If I try to close the virus alert window I just keep getting more virus alerts.

I checked out Symantec's website which indicates that Backdoor.IRC.bot is a trojan and to fix it requires editing the registry in Windows. This looks pretty difficult from reports in other threads I've seen in this newsgroup and any mistake can apparently screw up the PC. Has anybody come across the Backdoor.IRC.bot virus and been able to fix it please? If so, please can you help?

Thanks. I looked at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.irc.bot.html
where it indicates the removal instructions which involves editing the registry.
I just wanted to check if there's another way of fixing this virus without
having to edit the registry, which appears to be a bit high risk. Or if anybody
has fixed this virus whether they had any problems editing the registry.

As long as you follow their instructions word for word, you won't have any
problems.

Duncan,
If you are hesitant about mucking about in your registry , you might give
these folks a try first.
