Tried deleting lsass.exe (virus/malware)- stuck booting in safe mo

My 2 spyware programs didn't find this malware that was plaguing me, so after
checking the processes list found that this file "lsass.exe" is baaaaddddd.
Tried to kill the process and it shut my pc down. Went to file explorer and
deleted all 3 files named "lsass".
Went to msconfig and checked it to start in safe mode. Got interrupted by
toddler, and when I went back and restarted, I also pressed F8 to boot in
safe mode.
I see the first windows screen/logo (where at the bottom left it has
directions like F10 for setup), then it has a black screen - in all 4 corners
of the screen it says "Safe Mode", but that's as far as I get. Computer
seems locked up.
Tried "last good configuration" option, - get same result.
I let it run that way thinking it might just take a while, but 1.5 hours
later, still same screen.
Don't have an XP Install CD that I'm aware of.

I used a different computer to make a 6 floppy disk boot type thing, but I'm
afraid it will wipe my PC clean... which I don't want since I haven't moved
pictures of my daughter to a back up source. Any help with the above issue
would be great. and if anyone can tell me if using the 6 disc set will wipe
out my data??

Replace lsass.exe and it should restart. Then explore further for the
actual problem.

How would I replace it when I did a Shift Delete to delete the files, and I
can't boot up? Not sure how to replace a file when I cannot it to boot up in
regular or safe mode...

Thanks for your response.

I can't answer the question about the 6 disc set because have never/will
never use it.

Instead, I would buy a USB enclosure for the hard drive on the problem
computer. I would remove the disk from the computer and install it into the
enclosure. Then, I would connect the enclosure to an available USB port on
the other computer. Once this is done, it is merely the task of copying
lsass.exe from one computer to the other.

Next, I would buy Acronis True Image to make a full backup of my computer.
ATI can make a rescue disk which will restore any of its backup files to the
disk of your choice.
