Hi
Is there a way to start the custom animation at the same time as the
transition.
for eg I would like to have say a chessboard affect transition but have the
image growing underneath at the same time using the custom animation. At the
moment the custom animation waits untill the transition filter has finished

Here's a thought. I don't know if it will work. What if you eliminate the
transition. Instead, take a picture of the previous slide and place that on
top of the current slide. Now, make a custom animation of the picture of the
slide disappearing with the checkerboard effect. Then have your GROW
animation happen With Previous (the previous animation being the
disappearance of the picture of the slide).

No, the custom animation will only start after the slide transition has
completed.
One way to achieve this is to 'fake' the checkerboard transition by using
custom animation instead. In this way, you will be able to have them animate
simultaneously. Check out "Creating 3D Transitions in PowerPoint on the
