Transferring Outlook details to new PC

Trevor

I am trying to transfer Outlook details to a new PC.

Initially I searched for *.pst files and took the largest and opened it in
the new PC (Outlook 2007 on both). I seem to have got most of my inbox there
was last weeks 3 weeks ago and what looked like most mails back to 2006, but
not 2 weeks ago strangely.

The main thing I want is the contacts. I have tried exporting contacts, but
none come through.

I now have 2 personal folders the original empty one and the large one from
my old PC. I have set up the inbox on the personal folder from my old
machine as the curremt one. From what I've read this should allow me to
delete (or close) the other - it doesn't it's greyed out.

How can I a) Get my contatcs to ther new PC/Outlook and b) remove the empty
un-needed Personal Folder?

You would need to find and open the correct PST file. Obviously you have not
yet done that. Did you not take note of which PST file you were using on the
other PC?
To close the other PST file, use R click and close after you have restarted
Outlook. If you cannot, you have corrupted your Outlook profile. Importing
Outlook data will do that. That's why you never import Outlook data.

Your contacts are conatined within the pst (data file)
You either corrupted your profile in the method used, or your origonal pst
is still set as default
With OL closed use the mail applet in the control panel to set the correct
default data file & remove the old

Or create a new profile & add the correct data file & accounts

Deleting the old persoanl folder by this method the address book has now
appears full of my old contacts.

Perhaps I missunderstand, but I thought you wished to remove (Its not
deleted) the new empty data file?
