Transferring files

Hi all,

I installed a copy of VISTA Ultimate last night on a new hard drive, I tried
to use the transfer files program to copy the accounts from my old hard
drive to my new one. As it does not give the option to transfer files from
IDE drives I plugged it into a external caddy and it still did not find
anything. Is there anyway to transfer my user accounts from my old drive
apart form backing up to CD when I only have one computer (i.e. I only have
the second drive as an external drive)??

Cheers

Yes, I was using the transfer wizard and it would not allow me to copy from
an external hard drive. After playing around last night I found a solution
(not sure if this is how it is meant to be done).... Copied the migwiz
folder to my original hard drive, opened the folder and ran the migwiz
application (not the setup file) which took me to a wizard asking where I
wanted to save the files, I chose a different drive. It took about 6hrs to
copy only 80gb of data but this made a transfer file. I then booted up in
vista and ran the proper wizard, I followed the instructions and chose to
copy from an external drive, again it didn't see the drive... I opened the
location where I saved the file, double clicked on the file and it asked me
where I would like to save my user files too, I had to close out of the
wizard to make new user files (would of been nice to be able to create a new
one in the wizard) after choosing the user locations it started to copy. I
have had to leave it on while I go to work but it all looked to be working
fine when I left it.

Hope this will help people trying to copy user files when they preformed a
full installation and only have one computer...

:D
