What files? How do you know that they are .exe files that will run in
Vista?

Hi Ted,

The problem is with Vista not XP. Vista is picky about what files can
be executed based on both priviledges and location.

For example, the apps that I write will run with no problem if they are
installed on a non-system partition of a Vista machine. If it is
installed on the system drive, then the installer and user must both
have the correct permissions.

By "system partition" and "system drive", do you mean
to use Microsoft's non-intuitive definition which is the partition
(or "drive") on which the boot files reside? Or do you mean
the partition (or "drive") on which the OS resides (i.e. Microsoft's
"boot partition")?

As near as I have been able to tell with Vista the 'drive/partition'
that contains the actual OS. With a multi-boot system, you can place
Vista on a drive other than where the boot-loader resides Its a PITA to
have XP on the '0' partition and Vista on the '1' partition, but it is
do-able.
