Transfering files from vista to xp using usb flash drive or externalhard drive

Can anyone tell me if I can transfer files from vista home premium to
xp using a usb flash drive. I have some school files I would like to
take with me on a trip and use my moms computer instead of taking my
computer and her computer is running windows xp, mine is vista.
Could this also be done using an external hard drive as well.

Yes, yes. There is an icon which shows up at right-hand bottom
which allows you to safely remove the drive when you are done.

Provided, that is, that tbow's mother's computer has whatever
application is needed to use the files, in as recent a version
as necessary.
