transferring favorites from a corrupt IE pc to another pc

I have 2 pcs both with IE 6 (on windows NT 4.0). Recently
my primary pc IE has been bombing as soon as I invoke it -
i click the IE icon and the Error window pops up
immediately giving me the option to send an error report
to MS. Restarting doesn't help.

I'd like to transfer my favorits list from this pc to the
other but obviously can't EXPORT them from the non-working
program. I've copied the FAVORITES folder to a network
drive but when I try to IMPORT them from the 2nd pc I get
a prompt asking for bookmark.html. Should I just drop
this favorites folder into the favorites folder of the 2nd
pc?

Thanks for your advice!

yes, just copy the favorites folder to other pc and overwrite/copy into
existing folder. No need to import when going from IE to IE.

hi, if its just ie that is corrupt have you tried to
repair it. If so and that did not help, what i did last
time was got to where i downloaded the ie file and
reinstalled it by double clicking that file and my
favorites remain in tacted and ie was fixed. This has
always worked for me hope it helps. sorry dont know how to
transfer favorites.

I believe that the Import is for importing Netscape bookmarks, which is why
you are being asked for the bookmark.html file as that is how Netscape
stores them.

Just copy your Favourites into the new PC Favourites store location.

Hope this helps.

See if this procedure can fix IE.

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." That should allow IE to work.

You might also be able to browse and download programs from the address bar
of Windows Explorer.

Download and run Run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded from another
machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.

Then download, install, *update* and run both of these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
Both programs should be updated after installation- before use.

Search for and remove other malware and note the security tips at:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.
